Any questions you may have will be answered at this first consultation: your preoperative vision evaluation test.

The goal of refractive eye surgery, or laser vision correction, is to reduce your dependency on eyeglasses or contact lenses to a minimum and to increase the comfort of your day to day life.

Your surgeon will explain the different laser eye surgery techniques as well as their benefits and risks. During this initial visit you will have several eye examinations and an in depth analysis of your cornea to determine whether you are a candidate for refractive laser surgery.

Your ophthalmological surgeon obtains biometric measurements of the eye (pachymetry, anterior and posterior topography of the cornea eye aberrometry).
He then performs a fundoscopic examination after applying eye drops.. Attention, your vision will be blurry for 2 to 3 hours after this appointment.
He also measures your eye pressure.
If you fulfill all the conditions for eye surgery, your surgeon will explain all of the different surgical options as well as their benefits, risks and outcomes over time.
He will then give you an estimate of the costs (This estimate can, if necessary, be used to request reimbursement from your mutual medical insurance).
Finally, he will provide you with an official informed consent form, which summarizes everything that you will have been told and discussed during the preoperative consult, which you will return dated and signed on the day of the procedure. You can download this document on the Société Française d’Ophtalmologie website.

This consultation lasts about 1h30 at the Espace Nouvelle Vision Center.

During your preoperative eye examination, we will use several devices to examine your cornea. Eye drops will be administered to dilate your pupils. Your vision will be blurry and your eyes will be light sensitive for several hours because of the eye drops so we recommend that you do not drive after these tests, and that you wear sunglasses to limit any discomfort.

What if I wear contact lenses?

It is very important stop wearing your contact lenses for several days before these tests. Contact lenses can affect the surface of the cornea, which could result in incorrect measurements and negatively affect the results of your vision after surgery The cornea must return to its natural shape which can take different amounts of time from one person to the other. It always takes longer for individuals who wear hard lenses than for those with soft lenses and it also depends on how many years you have been wearing contacts.

  • If you wear soft lenses: 1 week without contacts
  • If you have been wearing hard lenses for less than 10 years: 4 weeks without contacts
  • If you have been wearing hard lenses for more than 10 years: 6 to 8 weeks without contacts

We can make a date for your laser eye surgery after this in depth eye examination is complete.
If you wish you can take time to decide and contact us by phone to make a date for your laser eye surgery.

The preoperative eye examination costs 120€, whether the patient is eligible for surgery or not.

The patient pays for the preoperative examination. This payment is then registered at the Social Security with the Carte Vitale, and it is reimbursed 62.03€ by French National Health Insurance (Securité Sociale), with the rest to be paid by the patient’s complementary insurance if s/he has any. We do not have automatic payment of the complementary insurance at the Espace Nouvelle Vision Center.

The patient’s vision must be stable, especially myopia. Between 20 and 25 years old, the myopia must have been stable for the past 18 months. After 25 years old, one year of stable vision is sufficient.

Your surgeon will confirm that you are eligible after the in depth preoperative examination of your eyes and your cornea.

Diseases of the cornea, eye inflammation, severe dry eye and certain other diseases (uncontrolled diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis) are contraindications. Pregnancy is a temporary contraindication to laser eye surgery.

The advantages of surgery as well as any possible risks are explained to you to help you make your own decision. The entire team at the Espace Nouvelle Vision Center is available to answer any questions and respond to your concerns. You will receive personalized care, before, during and after your refractive laser surgery.

A word from our patients

A successful operation!

My eye operation was a success thanks to the new RELEX SMILE procedure. My eyes stung a bit for 4 hours after the operation and that’s all! It’s so wonderful to get up in the morning and not to have to put on my glasses! I see the world differently through new eyes! Thanks to the team at the Espace Nouvelle Vision Center!

I’m so happy!

It’s been 2 months since I had eye surgery at the Espace Nouvelle Vision Center (to treat myopia with LASIK). I’m very happy, I can see perfectly, with no need for glasses or contacts! It’s changed the way I live, I don’t have to deal with taking care of contacts, and it’s so great to get up in the morning and be able to see! I highly recommend this operation for anyone that is eligible. The surgeon and the team at the Espace Nouvelle Vision Center were fantastic!

I have perfect vision again!

With a friendly and professional team, and an operation that was not as impressive as I thought it would be, I now have perfect vision again!
No more tired eyes after a long day with contacts, or blindly searching for my glasses…I am totally satisfied with the operation and would like to thank my surgeon and his team!
