LASEK

The principal rests on the detachment and the division of the epithelium (very thin top layer of surface tissue from 50 to 55 microns) from the surface of the cornea.
The treatment of myopia, hypermetropia and/or astigmatism by the Excimer Mel 80 Zeiss laser is then applied to refractively dress the surface. The epithelium is then put back in its original place on the surface of the laser modified cornea.
A flexible absorbent contact lens is then placed on the cornea for 3 or 4 days afterwards to assist with the healing process.
After a Lasek there can be a certain amount of discomfort during the following days and sharpness of vision can vary for one or two weeks. It is possible that vision will be blurred while the sight is recovering.
