Visual defect

An astigmatic eye

A blurred vision both near and far.
In this condition the cornea looks like a rugby ball in contrast to the normal corneal shape which is more like a foot ball.
The light which passes through an astigmatic cornea focuses on the retina in several planes creating a blurred vision of both near and far objects.
The majority of myopia and hypermetropia cases have a certain degree of astigmatism associated with them.
The Excimer laser can correct the refractive error by removing the corneal tissue to establish a more symmetrical cornea.
